I am always on the look out for gadgets that can come in handy. The following are a few of my ideas related the the pilots computer and metal and magnetic money clips. Check the slide show below for pictures related to these descriptions.

I have been using this circular slide rule for over 40 years. Beside the normal ground speed and distance index calculations used by pilots, it is functional slide rule that can be used for all types of algebraic functions and formulas. It can perform simple division and multiplication function. I fastened this to a money clip with Velcro to make it removable and easier to use than attached to keys.

This Stainless Steel Spring Type Money Clip features a Pilot’s Ground Speed Index Slide rule and a removable stainless steel Multi-functional tool.

This circa WWII Pilots Computer (slide rule) is a unique device to have on hand for common computations. Beside the normal ground speed and distance index calculations used by pilots, it is functional slide rule that can be used for all types of multiplication, division and other algebraic functions and formulas.
Include links to how to use sites

Illustration for basic computation.
http://www.sliderules.info/collection/inst-circ.htm

Air Classics E6-B Flight Computer Instructions requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.
http://www.asa2fly.com/files/support/E6B_Manual.pdf

The stainless steel multifunction tool is attached to the money clip with Velcro. It is made from stainless steel and is well built. Include Philips and flat head screwdrivers, can and cap openers, pliers, wire cutter, knife, saw blade and LED flashlight. The multi function tool can folded to a compact 3 x 1 x ½” size and is attached to the money clip with velcro and can be easily removed for handier applications. An optional case is available for a @2.00. Size 3-1/2”x1-3/4”x 1-1/8” weight 3.6 ounces

The stainless steel pocketknife attachment includes 7 tools. A flashlight. Bottle opener, can opener, Philips head screwdriver, nail file and knife blade are included all contained in a comfortable case and quality built. The knife is attached to the money clip and Pilots computer with Velcro and can be easily removed for applications. Size 3-3/4”x1-3/4”x 1-1/8 weight 4 OZ.

The streamline 10 in 1 stainless steel mini multi tool contains the following: knife blade, bottle opener, metric and English scales, cap nut tool, nail file, scissors, Philips and flat head screwdrivers. Size 2-1/2x 1-3/4x7/8. Weight 2.2 ounces. The tool is attached to the money clip and Pilots computer with Velcro and can be easily removed for applications.

The last item offered is a 2gig thumb drive for transferring and backing up computer files. The tool is attached to the money clip and Pilots computer with Velcro and can be easily removed for insertion to a computer’s USB port. Size 2-5/8,1-3/4,7/8 weight 1.1 oz.

I have two available for auction. Both items include the permanently attached pilots computer slide rule, money clip and detachable multi tool. One is a stainless steel spring model the other is a magnetic leather clip with a purse like holder for the multi purpose tool.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding these items.

Simple Tonneau Snap Button Tool

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 233px; height: 320px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_BawN9ae8pT8/SdPlKPvCapI/AAAAAAAABGM/S5Y996UB4C8/s320/Tonneau+tool+rubbermaid+9-5-2008+8-05-41+PM+1700x2338.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5319847549039962770" />

Tonneau Cover Snap Button Tool

Really great to use on those stubborn corner buttons. Should work on all 5/8 diameter snaps.

The drawing of the Tonneau Snap button has 3 variations. The first option employs using only the hole, rounded handle and angled line. Although the tool is only 1-1/2 inch wide, it is recommended to be made from 2” wide material. This will prevent chipping and run out when drilling the 5/8” dia. hole. Option 2 adds a finger grip to the tool which is also handy for unsnapping stubborn buttons on older cover tops and prevents tearing of the cover. Option 3 allows a comfortable grip of the tool when using the tool with the quick grip clamps and the best option to also snap the button in place with a downward movement on the clamp but requires the widest material 3” to allow for the drilling of the hole.

1. For best result use this tool as pictured below with 6” quick grip clamps.
2. Start with a piece of Plexiglass or another suitable ¼” thick stock at least 7” x 2” wide. 3. This will ease the drilling of the 5/8” diameter hole in solid sheet stock.
4. Rubber cement or tape the pattern on to ¼” plexiglass or other suitable material.
5. Locate and drill the 5/8” Dia. Hole where indicated.
6. File or use a Rotary like tool to grind a 45 degree bevel upward on the 5/8 hole.
7. Right-handers should have the bottom pattern to the left. Lefthanders the bottom pattern to the right when shaping the bevel up.
8. Round off all edges with a file or rotary tool.
9.Place the tool with the bevel up around the snap button. Attach the 6’ one hand clamp and trigger the clamp to place the snap over grommet. Push down with free hand to snap. 10.You may also be able to fasten the snap by using a slight downward motion.
To accommodate different size buttons simply change the diameter of the drill bit used.

All donations accepted.
If you do not have the tools available contact me and I will build one for you.
Fritz Tallian
22355 River Ridge Trail
Farmington Hills, MI
48335
ftallian@mi.rr.com

Money Clips & This fixture could be used with rip fences and miter guides or on band saws and disc sanders. Let me know if you have any good ideas for this really versatile clamp.

This jig or fixture is made of three different thickness of stock. 1/8” for the base, ½ “ to provide a level base for the clamp and ¾” stock formed to outline the clamp and hold it steady during use. I think it is pretty useful and a safe way to secure stock while machining. I find it especially useful when making toy models and other similar small projects. Please feel free to share your opinions of these solutions using the versatile Quick Grip clamp with me or anyone. I used ¼ cold rolled steel purchased at a local hardware store. I threaded the ends with a ¼ 20 tpi die to a length of 1-1/2”. I then cut the length to 6 inches and bent the non threaded end 1-1/2 at a 90 degree angle. Grind the end at a taper and slightly grind the opposite side. Drill a ¼” hole in each clamp pad center and fasten with ¼ 20 bolts, hex nuts, lock washers and wing nuts as indicated.
I originally designed this attachment for taking apart cabinet doors, drawers and casework to recycle the wood for other projects.. Set the grips with a hammer until you can build up enough resistance to use the handle clamp to separate the joint. Works best with softwood and similar material. Not so good in hardwood as jig has a tendency to slip out. Looking for suggestions or other uses.

New Quick Grip Ideas

Starting to work on two new ideas for uses with Quick Grip clamps.
